At Ajenta, we always pride ourselves in providing first class service to our users and we believe this comes from employing a great team, who work well together and create our ‘Ajenta Family’. In this series of blog posts we will let you get to know our team a little better.
Heather Whybrow is one of our Education Account Managers who joined the Ajenta team earlier this year and is already an integral part of our commercial team.
How did you find starting a new job during the Covid-19 pandemic?
I started with Ajenta at the beginning of January so in lockdown, and I have to say it has been an odd experience starting a new job without physically meeting anyone. Luckily, I already knew Lyndsay because we used to work together at a previous company however the team at Ajenta have been extremely welcoming, and I felt part of the team instantly.
Working remotely feels natural to me because in my previous role I worked from home. I have created myself a good workspace in my house, but I have to admit is has been slightly challenging to say the least since the start of the year because my husband Colin and dog Monty have been at home too because of lockdown.
Are you enjoying working remotely just now?
Working at home isn’t for everyone but I really like it I find that I get more done with no time wasted commuting to and from the office or distractions. Having a dog has helped me through lockdown. Monty makes me get out the house for walks and fresh air this is so important for health and mental wellbeing. He also means I don’t sit at my desk all day, I walk Monty every morning before work, lunchtime and after work in the evening (nicer when the nights are lighter and the weather hopefully improves soon).
The team ensures we have regular catch ups with the team over video, and in my job I am regularly on video calls with current and perspective clients which gives me regular interaction with others which is so important.
What are the biggest challenges you face in your role?
I am really enjoying my role at Ajenta although it has been a challenge to adapt to the education sector as it is very different to the other industries I have worked in. I have predominantly worked in the private sector rather than public and I have learned that the approach to account management and selling is different. The buying process can be longer but also it can be more rewarding as I feel in some cases, we are genuinely helping people and organisations to overcome very real-life problems.
What are your hobbies out-with work?
We live just east of Edinburgh on the coast, and we are very lucky to have some of the most stunning beaches in Scotland on our doorstep. We spend most weekends walking Monty on these beaches, he just loves swimming and in normal times with no pesky COVID-19 about we enjoy a pub lunch and a good beer. Food and drink play a big part in our lives we are always coming up with new recipes, sourcing new foods and wines and enjoy entertaining friends and family. We are especially known for our annual BBQ bash when Colin makes his famous burgers for everyone!
Looking forward now to the next quarter with Ajenta and hoping that we get the pandemic under control, I’ll check in again soon.
